OLD MARKET SQUARE

"All roads lead to the Old Market Square”, where the past meets the present, culture meets entertainment. It is not surprising then that this is a favourite place of the locals and the tourists alike. At high noon, regardless of the season or day of the week, a crowd gathers to see the famous Poznań Goats performing on the town hall’s spire.

The Town Hall Houses the Museum of History of the City of Poznań, presents the city’s history. There is a Rococo Proserpine Fountain in front of the Museum, which dates back to the 18th century and which is illuminated at night. But the character of the Old Market Square is not shaped by the Town Hall alone but also by beautiful tenement houses, the local scale with the monument of Bamberka, the Odwach (Main Guard Room), the Mielżyński and Działyński family palaces, small renaissance merchant houses, the pillory and other fountains, dedicated to Mars, Apollina and Neptune.
In the spring the Market Square is filled with numerous cafe gardens vibrant with life until late night hours.
